Sweden, Sweden, Sweden! We had a brief stop in Gothenburg on our way to Copenhagen, so here are some pictures! We decided on staying just two nights since we weren’t thrilled with our hostel and we were eager to see Copenhagen. Besides taking a moment to make the obligatory Batman jokes, we also found time to take in a rather interesting art exhibit (you’ll see what I mean).
I loved the Haga district (where the cafe picture was taken). It was so cute with just the right touch of whimsical. We stumbled upon the Konstmuseet by chance while we were exploring the city. Lucky for us, admission was free! The museum was a labyrinth filled with everything from Edvard Munch paintings to rather creative taxidermy… interpretations?
You can tell Christmas is a big deal here. Already shops are selling wrapping paper, ornaments, and Chirstmas goodies (though I’m sure the same is probably true at home), especially in reference to the Advent traditions. A candle is lit each Sunday in December leading up to Christmas, and we’re seeing decorative holders for the four candles everywhere. We’re also seeing some very cute Advent calendars for children, I may have to get one myself…
We gave the holiday glögg a try. Glögg is the Swedish version of mulled wine; heated up red wine with sugar and spices (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and bitter orange). Sometimes spirits, like vodka or brandy, are mixed in as well. Unfortunately, the bottle we had was a bit too much on the sweet side, but I’m sure we’ll be able to try better brews some other time. Needless to say, I’m excited to be coming back to Sweden in a few weeks. I can’t wait to get my hands on some more tasty saffron buns.
