Can you pick a more quintessential British dessert than an Apple Crumble? While we were staying with Carol and Phil in Stock-on-Trent Phil couldn’t resist introducing us to this national treasure. I particularly liked the addition of rhubarb in Phil’s recipe, yum! You will find a million and one variations online for every kind of crumble you can think of, but for now enjoy Phil’s take on apple crumble!
Ingredients:
- Rhubarb
- Apples
- Cinnamon
- Water
- Crumble topping (mix or homemade)
- Sugar (optional)
Preheat oven to 200°C. If preparing a crumble topping from scratch, prepare now and set aside. Chop apples and rhubarb into bite-sized pieces and mix together in a bowl. Pour apples and rhubarb into a saucepan and stew on low with some water and sugar (if desired) until soft.
Put apple and rhubarb mixture into a greased baking dish. Spread the crumble topping evenly over top of the mixture, and sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon. Bake until crumble topping is beginning to brown and mixture is heated through. Serve topped with custard for an extra treat! A perfect treat before heading out to your local pub 😉
